Bass Harbor Head Light House is located on Mt. Desert Island in Maine. When you first visit the light house, you
are struck by its position perched high atop pink granite cliffs. In order to get a good view of the light house, climb
around on huge granite rocks until you find the view that suits you. And the view of the ocean from this perspective
is stunning as well. During our visit, ships of all types were sailing up and down the coast to get a view of the light
house and granite coast at sunset. We wished we were sailing with them because the evening was calm and
beautiful. And anywhere you go along the coast of Mt. Desert Island, you can watch all kinds of ships leisurely
sailing around the island. We have not gone sailing while visiting Mt. Desert Island, but this location will give you
the itch because so many views from along the coast are elevated. Not only do you see numerous ships sailing
around, but you also see the open ocean ahead of them for miles and miles out to sea. These pictures were taken
at sunset, when the wonderful red and orange colors of the sunset enhanced the pink and red colors of the large
granite rocks. The colors of the granite we were as stunning as those of the sunset. Our kids still talk about this
early evening trip to the light house.
